NSW Athletics to Expand Junior Development Program in 2025

NSW Athletics is proud to announce an exciting expansion of its Junior Development Program, now extending its reach to athletes in both Sydney and Tamworth starting in Term 1, 2025.

The Junior Development Program is tailored to athletes aged 10–14, offering them an elite high-performance training experience to compliment their current training. With the backing of the Athletics NSW Centre of Excellence (COE), this program aims to uncover and nurture future athletic stars. Partnering with Rural Fit in Tamworth, NSW Athletics is committed to bringing this incredible opportunity to regional athletes.

At the heart of the program is the Junior Athletic Movement Assessment, a comprehensive testing process that evaluates each athlete’s stage of growth, physical development, and movement patterns. This allows coaches to design bespoke training programs that focus on key performance markers, including strength, power, speed, and coordination.

Nyomie Hofman, whose son Zander participated in the pilot program in Tamworth, has seen firsthand the benefits of this initiative.

“After only a couple of weeks, Zander has become much stronger and fitter. We’ve noticed significant improvements in his athletic ability and performance,” Hofman shared.

“Zander recently competed in the senior boys relay at Zone Athletics, helping his team secure a win in the 4x100m relay. But the biggest change has been his confidence. He’s much more aware of his body and the changes within himself.”

The Junior Development Program provides a nurturing environment that encourages young athletes to reach their full potential while instilling a strong foundation for long-term success. With specialised junior development coaches, the program caters to all sports, ensuring every participant receives personalised, high-quality training.

Bookings for the Junior Athletic Movement Assessments are now open at the Centre of Excellence in Sydney and at Rural Fit in Tamworth. Don’t miss your chance!
